These are used to improve wrinkles caused by volume loss as we age. They help to fill out deep facial wrinkles, sunken cheeks and temples, hollows under the eyes and some types of scars. Fillers can also be used to provide a fuller, more sensuous look to lips. The clinic uses both Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and Polylactic acid (PLLA) fillers. The filler results last from 9-15 months with HA injections and up to 2 years with PLLA injections. This is an ideal treatment which can be combined with lasers and botox injections for individuals looking for global facial rejuvenation.
Botulinum Toxin Injections (BOTOX)
This is used to treat wrinkles and lines caused by facial muscle movements. Common wrinkles that can be treated with botox include crows feet (next to the eyes), horizontal forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), bunny lines on the sides of the nose and puckering of the chin. A fine needle is used to introduce the toxin into the muscles causing these lines and the treatment lasts up to 6 months. The treatment can be performed with or without a topical anaesthetic cream.
Botox is also used to create an improved facial contour especially in those individuals with large masseter muscles causing a square jaw. These patients often grind their teeth during their sleep resulting in an aching jaw upon wakening. The treatment eradicates these symptoms and can last up to 8 months.
Botox injections are also administered in the clinic to eradicate excessive sweating particularly in the armpits and hands. This can be cosmetically embarrassing to individuals and the effect of the treatment can last up to 8 months.
Fractional CO2 laser is a modern method to treat a range of conditions on the skin by removing only a fraction of the skin leaving islands of normal skin which aid in wound healing of the treated areas. Conditions which can be treated using this laser technology include:
- Acne Scars
- Atrophic scars
- Excess eyelid skin
- Skin pigmentation
- Skin Wrinkles
When the skin heals, new collagen is formed and patients will see an improvement in skin texture, depth of scars, pigmentation and wrinkles. The downtime for this procedure is 1 week where the skin heals and sun exposure is to be avoided during this time.
Intense Pulse LightIPL is a broad band light source that is used to achieve photorejuvenation. It is effective for superficial pigmentation such as freckles, solar lentigenes, and superficial melasma. It is also effective for redness caused by fine blood vessels such as in rosacea. IPL is also used for hair removal in those patients not suitable for laser hair removal. IPL can improve skin texture and the treatment results in the face and neck appearing “brighter” and lighter”. The treatment has minimal downtime and patients can resume daily activities and work almost immediately.
To achieve optimal results it is recommended that 4-5 sessions are performed at an interval of 4-6 weeks. The machine used is the high end Ellipse® I2PL+ system.
Laser Hair RemovalExcessive hair may be familial, due to a hormonal imbalance or related to some medications. Hair can be removed using Intense Pulse Light (IPL) or a Long pulsed Nd YAG Laser which is safe for all skin types especially those with darker skin. Both treatments offer long-term hair reduction after multiple sessions of treatment.
Preparation for IPL or laser treatment
- Avoid waxing, threading or plucking hairs 2 weeks before
- Shave the hairs short 3 days prior
- Avoid suntanning
Number of sessions required
- 4-6 sessions for face, armpits, bikini line, brazilian
- 5-7 sessions for arms and legs
This involves injecting a chemical solution into the fine veins of the skin (thread veins, spider veins) to occlude the vein resulting in its disappearance. A very fine needle is used during the injections and no anaesthesia is required as the sensation is that of a mild pin prick.
Skin Tightening and Lifting
Due to our daily lifestyle and exposure to the sun, our skin loses its firmness and starts to sag. This results in jowls and sagging skin under the chin together with fine lines around the eyes and extra folds of skin and lines on the neck. At the clinic the doctor uses Pelleve® which is an advanced radio frequency technology which heats the deeper collagen in the skin resulting in contraction and tightening. The surface layer (epidermis) is not damaged and the lifting effects are immediate with an improvement in skin firmness and tightness.
The clinic has a Q-Switched Nd:YAG pigment laser (Revlite) that is used to remove unwanted tattoos. This laser works well for tattoos that are black and red in colour. The number of treatment sessions depends on whether the tattoo was amateur or professional and the depth of tattoo ink deposited in the skin. Treatment sessions are 4 weeks apart.
